How long have you been in business?
Rios Design Studio has been in business since 2009. WE are a husband and wife team. We are a woman owned, small business. Both Jim and Megan have over 45 years of combined Landscape Architectural experience.
What is your primary product or service?
As Landscape Architects, Rios Design Studio designs plans or blueprints (preliminary or construction drawings) for submittal to local municipalities for review and approval, as well as, for bidding purposes for landscape contractors to then install. We work on all kinds of projects, large and small, residential, commercial, or municipal. We focus our hardscape, planting, irrigation, and lighting designs on meeting the federal, state, and municipal codes, along with a conscious conservation of water and maintenance practices.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Both Jim & Megan have degrees in Landscape Architecture. Jim Rios graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and Megan graduated from Cal Poly Pomona. They met at a Landscape firm RHA Inc. in Riverside and have worked in the Southern California area for more than 10 years before locating to Bakersfield to raise a family and be closer to family. Both are licensed in CA. Megan is also licensed in AZ. Jim is a certified irrigation designer, and water auditor.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Rios Design Studio creates the plans on Auto CAD, a computer programs that allows work to be reviewed and shared with other professional trades like architects and civil engineers.We are also involved with the local CLCA (California Landscape Constractors Association) and have a good repore with local consultants. Again our design concentrates on conservation of water and maintenance.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
At this time we plan on being located only in Bakersfield, but we can do work all over California. Rios Design Studio does not need a local office to meet the needs of the clients or meet the requirements of civic standards.

In Bakersfield, from the 99, exit Ming Ave, turn west away from the Valley Plaza Mall, go south on Real Avenue, and west on Ora Vista.Our office is at 3805 Ora Vista Ave. If you come to Wilson Ave. You have gone too far.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept checks. We not have begun taking credit cards. We have not had any requests to do so from our clients.
Which areas do you service?
We are licensed for the entire state of California. We prefer to do work in Kern County and surrounding counties.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Megan & Jim Rios are the owners, landscape architects and run all daily operations.
What are your hours of operation?
We are available 8am-5pm Monday through Fridays.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
The best compliment is always a referral. We have been refered several times by happy clients and other professional we have worked with. We appreciate recommended referrals.
